    Green And Blacks

    Written by

Who would refuse an invite to visit Green and Blacks stall at the Christmas Fair in Bury? It took a while to find them but we persevered and were more than rewarded by a couple of tastes of the various bars they produce and two bars of their thin Sea Salt chocolate to take home. Really nice guys on the stall too. This company were the fore-runners of the chocolate trend that has now made it possible to try specialist chocolate from all over the world - and this is still some of the best.

    Tomatoes at Borough Market

    Written by

I found a lot of cheese, cured meat and bread at Borough Market. I also found tomatoes.  I don't usually bother much with tomatoes in the winter, but these were just too tempting...

Would you like a stand at Church Farm Barn Christmas market?  Are you an Artisan producer? Ruth Williamson and her husband Paul are holding a Christmas Market in their barn at Church Farm, Bradfield Combust on the weekend of December 14th and 15th.  Throughout the month of December they sell their farm grown Christmas trees and homemade fir wreaths from the barn.

Ruth says "the market is undercover in our Suffolk barn, dry but may not be all that warm!  I am looking for local producers such as a breadmaker, cheese supplier or Christmas pudding maker or any food that could be good for Christmas or to give as a gift.  I am happy to consider craft makers too!  I charge £20 for the 2 days and supply a table and chair" for more details email Ruth at This email address is being protected from spambots. It looked empty from the car park although we had a nice apple tasting from Mr Greenwoods (Norfolk, but we like Norfolk too) on the way in. Inside it was busy, we bought honey, coffee, black pudding, cheese and a lot of curry!

    Stopped at Beccles Market

    Written by

Stopped at Beccles market last week for suffolkfoodie 'research' and saw the blackboard with pea and mint soup so had to search it out.  Found a great little stall selling the soup complete with homemade croutons, great homemade preserves ( mostly foraged fruit and veg) and cakes.  Came home with a cup of soup, six chocolate and cherry biscuits and a bottle of plum sauce ( secret recipe!) All for a fiver!

    Bury Market

    Written by

What a great day for the market...I bought fresh peaches, a big pineapple, gorgeous cherries, strawberries, new potatoes  - Bury market isn't always this good but it beats a supermarket for fruit & veg any day in a summer like this.

The day has finally come when my first free sample as a result of writing about food has arrived - HOORAY ! Bring on the presents/bribes/samples. So off to Wyken to get my macaroons and take a few pictures of the other stall holders while I'm there. And we liked the salted caramel ones best Min!
